Trifind is a free, open-source repository scanning tool. With TriFind you can quickly find versions in a Harvest Repository that contain specified text strings.

Other repository scanning tools check out the entire folder heirarchy and then scan all the retrieved items for the specified string. Unlike them, TriFind operates entirely at the database level - it does not need to check a version out in order to scan it. This means it is very, very fast.

TriFind runs on the Harvest Oracle server. It does not even require Harvest to be running in order to scan the database. By working at the repository (as opposed to project) level, all projects that use a located version can be quickly identified in a single search pass.

"To become aware of the possiblity of the search is to be onto something."
- Walker Percy

Using TriFind you can search the latest versions of items in each view or, optionally, all the versions in each view. This allows you to find text even in old versions.

TriFind's output can be customised so that you can select a number of different version attributes in both human and machine-readable form. With the latter option it is simple to build TriFind into scripts, for example to create HTML reports. By creating a server-side UDP process you can allow your end users to search their own (or other) projects. Impact analysis from the desktop is now feasible.

Best of all, TriFind is completely free. It is not shareware, crippleware or any other sort of ware. It is an open-source project and you are free to download it, compile it or amend it as you see fit.
